My Adidas

I have something in common with Run DMC -- I love my Adidas.  I am an avid runner and dedicated Adidas Supernova consumer for the past 15 years.  The shoe fits my foot like Cinderella's glass slipper and gives the perfect amount of pronation control.  But there's more to my affection ...

Shoes have become strangely sentimental to me.  Particularly, my Adidas.  They helped me brave the intimidating halls of high school, cross the drill field at Virginia Tech, drive me cross country to move to California and explore the streets of San Francisco.  When I was 8 months pregnant, I ran, yes ran, to the top of Shell Ridge.  Couldn't have done that without my Adidas!  Most recently, my Adidas carried me 26.2 miles to the finish line of the Honolulu marathon.

My Adidas have stepped me through significant moments and day to day happenings of life.  I used to think that the tradition of bronzing your kids first pair of shoes was somewhat odd, but I totally get it now.  It's easy to attach memories and emotions to shoes.  I don't think I'm alone in wishing that I could freeze time when significant moments happen, and your kid walking around for the first time is surely a significant moment.  Bronzing the shoes gives you the ability to look up at the mantle where you put them, and smile. It is something tangible that freezes that special memory of your little one when they could lay in your lap and their tiny feet fit in the palm of your hand.

Shoes carry us through life -- literally!  We attach emotion and life experience to them.  How many of you think fondly back to sporting your Converse All Stars?  Or your Jelly shoes?  Sam & Libby's?  Or here's a throwback -- Zips & Kangaroos!  Those zipper pockets were awesome!  Mind you, nothing but maybe a dime would fit in it, but it was still the coolest thing ever at the time.  I guarantee you will think back to those shoes and smile, just as a proud parent does when they look at the bronzed pair of toddler shoes.

I understand now why I have such loyalty to good old Adidas Supernova.  Yeah, it's a great shoe! But, it means so much more to me.  I do love my Adidas.
